From Maotai to Qingxiang and then to strong fragrance, Qibao Distillery combines the brewing techniques of various liquors. With the Shanghai-style characteristics of the sea and all the rivers, Qibao Daqu has been popular in Shanghai for decades, and once became the first brother of Shanghai liquor. Qibao Daqu is characterized by traditional hand-brewing. Due to various reasons, Qibao Distillery ceased production in the 1990s and closed down around 2000. Qibao Daqu has become a memory of the older generation of Shanghainese. However, production was resumed later. Through cooperation with liquor companies in Maotai Town, the name of the liquor was changed to Qibao Panda, and the production of Maotai liquor was resumed.
